That's too funny. It would be like me waking up one morning to discover that I'm a Pterodactyl with psychedelic wings! I would be initially scared but then very happy

Very interesting...
Maybe all the time the caterpillar feels that something isn't quite right... it's crawling about on the leaf, it feels the wind and it wants to do something- what? It can't tell, and it just keeps wriggling along in its skin, trying to do something it doesn't know how to do yet.
Then comes the coccoon stage, the big sleep... the caterpillar is curled up in silk, it can't move anymore, it just feels strange, things are changing in its body in ways it's never experienced before. It loses some legs, it grows some new legs, something large grows on its back- probably its little stomach feels a bit sick! That must be the worst stage, the actual change.
Eventually the change is complete, and the butterfly bursts out of the silk for the first time and feels the air on its wings. Maybe it remembers what it was like to be a caterpillar, and maybe it realises what it was waiting for? Now it knows what it was waiting for back then; it spreads its wings for the first time and goes off to find a flower ;)

i agree with buzzard's long answer.. tho it sounds like a class on biology. I feel its all our perceptions which we think as very important. but in reality neither the caterpillar nor the butterfly would give a dam!
