I'd pick him if it came to a penalty shoot out - he's the best shot blocker in England - it's just the rest of goalkeeping (handling crosses, positioning at free kicks, getting caught out of his area etc) he's rubbish at. He also has a better chance of actually scoring a penalty than many of the England outfield....

The problem is that beyond Robinson there is very little English goalkeeping talent, which is why James keeps getting in the squad.

There was always talk of Kirkland who's permanently injured, Carson who's not yet good enough, and Green (doesn't even play in the Premiership) is injured.

With David James it's purely a case of needs must

I hate that keeper to the core.
He is so useless that i think the only thing he has practiced in his life is to catch the strikers legs rather than the ball. He should not be even kept in the soccer players list. Moreover he was talking about some painting crap that he likes to do, I hope he takes painting seriously and releases England of his curse.

we have a lack of experienced goalkeepers so we are kinda stuck with him. Although i would have him as 3rd choice keeper behind robinson & Carson at the worldcup.

I think he should be in the squad but not the first XI. I cannot think of any other English keepers who are fit to take his place.

No; and neither should Hargreaves or Walcott. Should have taken Wright-Phillips.
