okay, obviously there's a difference between someone who owns a cat/s and a "cat person". You can usually tell a "cat person" from the way she gets all aggresive towards people who say they don't like cats....

P.S. There are exceptions to every rule, anyone who dismisses the validity of "stereotypes" obviously knows very little about humans and their observed beaviour...

Cats are not just the cute little furballs they appear. They're actually a tremendously powerful alien species with phenomenally well-developed psychic skills. With susceptible people, the cat will sometime form a mental link amounting to a slave contract. The human then becomes a two-legged, opposable-thumbed agent of the cat's will. (How do you think the catflap was first invented?). These are cat people. Naturally, they react vehemently against any negative energy directed towards cats, just as worker bees react strongly towards any threat to their queen, or white blood cells react against infections. While cat people can behave relatively normally in most situtations (most cats of course spend 92% of their time asleep, so the link is weakened), when words are spoken against the race of cats, cat people will react like claws on some giant cosmic cat, flexing and swiping at the source of the offending words.

Don't - and I can't stress this enough - Don't ever mess with cat people, unless you want to wake up one morning disembowelled and with your head presented as a gift to the Queen Cat of the Universe...

:o)

Ok, so I had to answer this! I am a definite "cat person"! Yes, I may seem weird to some people, but like a cat, I have dignity and I can be frisky alot of the time! :)
It's not so much that we are defensive towards people that don't like cats; it's more the fact that the people who don't like them, really know little about them!
Cats are independent and gentle, curious and playful. They can take care of themselves, are extremely clean, and give unconditional love. They each have a different personality, like all animals do!
Most non-cat people think cats are sneaky and that they will hurt a baby! All three of my daughters were raised with cats and my cats were very protective of them!
So, I guess we may be weird, but it's a good weird!

We are not weird at all we are not aggressive towards people who say they don't like cats either. Cat people are protective of our cats because we have seen what those who are not either cat people or those who just don't like cats at all and it isn't very pleasant to see or hear about either.
Like dog owner and dog people we love our cats as they love their dogs. Dogs can protect themselves far better than a cat can protect it self.
Cats prefer to be a one person cat and are loyal to that person too.
We're not the weird ones at all, but I think you are for asking this question. Where do you get your information anyway? Dog owners manual?

I doubt seriously if there really is a firm category called "cat people"
Lots of people love cats and dogs, but they don't fall in a reliable category. They are diverse group with out real common denominators.
In other words I could line up 5 "cat Lovers" and five "dog lovers" and you could not tell the difference

Well because a cat person has a genuine love of cats and there is nothing wrong with it. Some people are like that about dogs or other animals.

I think it's probably because there are so many stupid rumors about cats that "cat people" want to dispel from people's beliefs. I have three cats and consider myself a "cat person" but I don't see the point in fighting with people over what makes a better pet.

I've always preferred cats to dogs, but it isn't that I don't like dogs but rather I just like how mellow and independent cats usually are. Dogs seem to need more from you and often more work than a cat.
I also have many friends that love dogs only and not cats but I feel that is more just a difference in likes and dislikes and doesn't bother me.
I have a cat now, who is very unusual and I often refer to him as a "dat" in fun, as he follows me everywhere and wants to be by my side much like a dog. Wherever I go, he wants to always be....thus the name "Dat" for dog/cat personality.

Generalization will get your thoughts dismissed instantly by quite a number of people. Your statements are nothing more than stereotypes based on your personal observations. Until you dismiss your stereotypes, really, they'll appear true to you, no matter what anyone says.

Very good question!

Probably for the same reason that "dog people" have a weird odor among them.

Now according to your "theory", I would be classified as a "cat person". However, I do not have any pets.

So, would you still consider me as a "cat person", because I think a "dog person" has a weird odor among them?

hmmmm......very interesting.

Because we are self assured and comfortable in our own skin. People who are confident do not need to control everything, and you can NEVER control the independence of a cat. Therefore , unsure people are threatened by cats. If confident people seem weird to you then you need professional help.
