how do you tell if theyre male or female?

It could be for breeding, territory, or just plain heck of it. It's very difficult to tell the difference between males and females.

arrrg! I've never been able to keep neons healthy for more than a month.. Its the only type of fish i cant keep. For me neon's are like the Canaries in the mines, neons swimming funny check the tank for something wrong

You may have a male and a female and they may be mating

they're playing chasy. With fish that small it's very hard to tell, ask at the pet shop where you bought them

Don't worry about that, they are just happy with the new environment and they are in fact " playing" with each others.

tetras aren't betas right? coz if you have betas your not suppose to put the males together.

It can mean two things
*That mean he or she wants some sex.
*He or she don't like one another.

they are playing "kiss chasing", dont worry about it, its good for them, NOT
