To be good "mousers" cats need to be slightly hungry. Too well fed a cat makes them lazy-- just like me! Back off a bit on the food and the cat will start mousing.

Take a GOOD cat to handle rat. They're just a tad large & firece for them, if the cat is desperate or determined maybe but only maybe...
Now a terrier dog ........

If you over feed a cat, then it doesnt have any initiative to "hunt" for its food!
Give the cat only the mininum, and it will look elsewhere, to the live rodent population for its food...
In fact, it may even bring in "dead" rodents as a plea for "more food"!!
Then, you reward it, every time it does....
(its how we got our cat to hunt...)
