Just curious because in that context it is a slang for smoking a cigarette in England. See for yourself with the link below.

It is all hypothetical, I am simply trying to understand how closed minded some people really can be. In some parts of the world, the term smoking a f a g means to smoke a cigarette even to this day. I am sure that this question has been reported and may not last because of the closed mindedness of some out there. Cheers

No, I freak out the second I see an offensive word...obviously you are talking about lighting a homosexual on fire in a hate crime!

EDIT: On second look...you could be talking about performing oral on a homosexual man! Still offensive!

Gawd, not ANOTHER question with a Stupidedia link !

Some things are a little too obvious and common sense to have to be looked up on that mess.

If you were concerned about it, you have several options:

a) Apply a little common sense
b) Ask anyone with a 3rd grade or higher education

So you smoke. Big deal -- you should try to quit. It's bad for your health, expensive and smelly. It does not imply that you are attempting to cause riots or other mayhem between smokers and non-smokers.

I guess I don't understand this question. How can this be deemed offensive and what rock did whomever you're concerned about offending crawl out from under ?

Smoke 'em if you've got 'em -- I'm thinking that if anything, you're being a little hyper-sensitive, too politically correct and misjudging the intelligence of the person you're conversing with.

Everyone knows that a Fag is a smoke, cigarette, a small pile of garden rubbish ... what else would you mean ?

If that person or persons is/are offended by such a simple and harmless statement, well -- you need to start moving in different circles (i.e. with people who have some common sense).

Don't be so concerned about it. If someone takes offense at something because they don't have a clue what you're talking about, that's their problem, not yours. You are not inciting any hatered.

You smoke, duh ... unless you're intentionally blowing smoke in their faces or being an obvious a*s about it, big deal.

I'm sorry, I really don't see the confusion or concern here.

About 30 years in Canada it was also the trend to use "f a g" for cigarette but it didn't last. If you said you were smoking a f a g today in North America I think only people of a certain age would understand you meant you were having a cigarette. I'm not sure that people would think you were hate inciting because I don't think people would assume you were out to kill a gay person. They might be just a bit confused. Language is always evolving and the point is to communicate what you mean to someone, so maybe you really wouldn't say that at all in the first place. I'm sure this is all hypothetical.

Never trust the English language.
I work up this morning to the sound of a crowing cock. I checked my beagle ***** and her new litter before making coffee. On the way to saddle my favorite *** for a ride to town to buy some fags, I saw a titmouse. Oh, what a boob, I left my wallet on the table. Quickly back to the house I noticed some dirt on the knob. I flicked the knob and the crap landed on a nearby pole. By this time I could tell that it was going to be a bad day. But that is just so much water over the dam.

I would believe you were enjoying (?) a tobacco product. Specifically, a cigarette. I think I knew that fag was slang for a cigarette starting at about age.... 9? Maybe 10?

I would know that. It's not as widely known in US nor amongst some of the younger Canadians. I said once on the chat that I would brb because I needed a f a g. oops , they were less disturbed when I said I was smoking.
You can also be fagged out-tired
gather a bundle of ******-small sticks
eat a f *****-meatballs made with offal.
I wouldn't be inciting hatred or performing an act of violence with any of these.

sheesh, you can't even use the word p ussy to refer to your cat here.

No, not necessarily, I do know that it's difficult to use the term gay as in happy because people think of homosexuality and get offended. It's strange when you have to give up words that you would normally use or prefer to use because someone else is offended by their own interpretation. As if they don't understand stand what you mean, so you can't use that term anymore. I feel stripped of my 1st Amendment Rights. I mean, people need to realize there are different definitions for many words.

I would think you were having kinky sex with a guy.

Not really, I grew up in a time when the Beatles, Rolling Stones and many other british bands came over, so I have heard the slang before. My grandmother was british so it brings back memories. I just know what they mean, I didn't realize that they actually derived from england.

Just look up the word f a g in Y!A advanced search. You will see how often this word is used and not removed.

It's all in the eye of the beholder, but I don't think your question should be removed. That is, unless someone has pissed in a team member's corn flakes this morning and they take your wording in the wrong context. And in that case, almost every question ever posed should be removed.

There have been times that I have come home at the end of the day and I'm totally f a g g e d (tired) and I don't even want to light a f a g (smoke).

I smoked a f a g before. But he had it coming. He was using the term "bling" wrong. I just thought it was an embarrassment to all gay people and I couldn't just stand there and let that happen.
