although sir alex ferguson has told sven not to play rooney in the group stages, and saving him until the knockout stage he is going ahead with it, do you think sven is doing the right thing and what do you think he should do in order for us to have the best chance at winning the world cup

As much as i dislike Ferguson i have to agree with him, rushing back a player isn't the right move espically as he won't be match fit for any of the matches. Remember David Beckham at the last world cup, same injury, he was rushed back and had a poor tournament, jumped out of a tackle which cost us a goal.

The opposition will be smart and will kick and stamp on rooney's foot when he plays whenever they get the chance. So i wouldn't expect rooney to be the same player he usually is for england, as the injury will always be in the back of his mind.

I don't do football, but unfortunately can't avoid it at the moment! It seems like Alex Ferguson has the long term care of Rooneys health as his priority whereas Sven only has the short term priority of winning the World Cup as he is leaving afterwards. I think it would be in the players best interests (and the future of his International career) if he waited to play.

Sven is doing the right thing. Rooney should not go the field until he is 110% fit. He is very young and has almost recently began his career. May be his absense from the football ground will worry some English football lovers for the while, it will be better for English football in the long run if a fit Rooney is available for the future...rather than straining an unfit one.

He shouldnt be using him.
His injuries need time to heal properly and even if he were fit to play , i dont think he would be totally match fit.
Also the psycological factor. He hasnt played with the team in the early stages and then to put him in at crucial stages in the tournament when he may not be quite fit enough would be a lot of pressure on Rooney.
Sven should be concentrating on keeping the team on form without relying on Rooney in the games.

I think this might be the end for Rooney. If they brake his leg again, it will be the 3rd time he's broken the same bone - surely the end. He is also out of training (not fit)... Erickson needs to play 451 with Crouch or Owen heading the attack - England have enough attacking midfielders who can play the role of shadow striker.
Yes Sven-Goran is an idiot. What does he care... hes out of the job in a month anyway.

Well, we don't actually KNOW who said what to whom nor do we KNOW when and if Rooney will take part. I think Sven knows what he's doing well enough - he won't endanger the player's health and I think that his biggest problem will be keeping Wayne in check long enough.

The really great thing about this is that we don't actually need Rooney although he certainly adds something. If you look at England's performances in qualifying you will see that the key to success is in defence and midfield. We would miss Ferdinand, Henry, Lampard or Gerrard much more.

I think Sven should let him recooperate. You don't need Rooney to help them beat the 'lesser' teams. Save him for the big matches. Then he'll have his strength back.

I think its the wrong thing. Rooney should be resting some more to play in the quarter finals and not tonight in a match that could be won without him.
