remember the good old days with nirvana, and all the great alternative bands. now everything is this crappy emo ****. god i hate listening to bands where the lead singer sounds like a 4 year old girl.

No you just have to deep a little deeper nowadays. The difference is, when I was at school, I had a lot of friends and we were all into Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Breeders etc etc, so it was easy to find out about new music in the same genre.
Now I am old(!) all the stuff that's 'mainstream' is dire, I agree, but listening to 'rock' radio stations, there is still some good stuff out there - it just needs 'finding' now that my friends have grown up, and out of their angst dammit!

You sort of have a point. Rock was better back in the Nirvana days. But not all new rock bands suck! Some really do (no names!) but others rule!

Yes rock does! It was much better in the pre Nirvana days actually. I'll take the blues rock of the 70s and 80s anyday.

I'll admit liking Nirvana & AIC, but sorry, if we're talking the Good Ol Days, we HAVE to be talking the 60s or 70s. When rock was groundbreaking & it ROCKED!

Yeah that's so true, finally I have someone who thinks the same as I do. I felt as if I was out of place till now, bcoz everyone I know feels that rock rocks. Its kinda irritating to watch all of them shaking their heads wildly as if on fire with overgrown hair and pathetic leather wrapped all over their bodies.

Take yourself to http://www.epitonic.com/ where you will find hundreds of great bands, most of which MTV and alike will never play. If you wan't a decent rock band may I suggest Mogwai who are easilly the best band on the planet ever!
edit - the guy at the top who's suggest UK bands is probably referring to **** like the artic monkeys and snow patrol, utter tosh avoid at all costs. Look up a band you like on the above website and they will show you similar bands who you may enjoy.

the scene here in uk is flying, try some english bands instead
