I don't think England should use Wayne Rooney for the group stages, as they should save him for the knockout stages. The fact that he might be fit for the group stages means that that he will probably be fitter for the knockout stages than if he wasn't so fit for the group stages.

Come on England!!!!!!!!

Rooney needs match fitness, No doubt. However the guy is obviously fit and healthy to have recovered this quickly. Match fitness at that level can be gained in a relatively short period of time. I would suggest that if we go two goals up against Paraguay that Rooney is brought on. For however long. He can always be substituted himself. From there on he should be given at least half an hour in the second game (Trinidad and Tobago) and a chance to start the third (Sweden) on the basis he comes off after 1 hr.

This should set him up for a full match in the knock out stages.

Sven will not risk the future of Rooney if he isn't ready he won't play.Look for Rooney to appear against Trinidad for 15 mins for a warm up for the second round.

Yes yes yes!!! The ideal scenario is that Rooney comes on to play Sweden for a half hour or so with England qualified already. He then orchestrates a brilliant knockout stage campaign by the English, beating Brazil en route to the final. In the final against....ah... who cares...., with the scores tied after 90 minutes, he goes into a stinging scissors kick volley that goes into the top corner to win the trophy for England. However in doing so he breaks his foot again, keeping him out of the entire English season next year.... Everyone a winner!!!!

Rooney needs to come from the bench to get back into playing shape but not push it.

TO BE HONEST NOT REALLY.

he'd have to be super human for that foot of his to completely heal for the tournament..

in the '98 World cup, Cerare Maldini didn't even think about getting Nesta to play with a broken leg.. that was common sense..

No, if he was gonna miss the first 2 games then yes take him but as he won't be fit till at least the 2nd round its not worth it, because by the time he gets his match fitness up to scratch it will be too late.
