It has always been the case that your looks and appearance is crucial in attracting potential partners and if everyone is honest looks and appearance are still highly important in what you look for in a potential partner. I think more pressure has been put on guys to look good and it is a sign of modern society that male grooming products such as the Nivea range have become popular. The pressure for a man to look good is still hardly anything compared to the pressure of a women to look good.
I would say celebritries such as David Beckham, Gavin Henson, other sports stars, film stars and rock stars have sparked a trend for men making more effort on thier appearance e.g going to expensive hairdressers for trendy haircuts . Using sun beds/ going to the gym / cosmetic surgery/ spending more time grooming. The constant Media footage of fashionable and successful guys adds pressure for men in general.
Society has been the greatest factor in guys feeling more pressure. Peer groups looking better by using grooming products and paying more attention to thier appearance puts more pressure on you looking good also.
In todays society i believe personality, being a good person, wealth, social status, brilliant abilities in a certain field, are other important factors and even ugly guys can be highly attractive with these factors.
In Summary, guys, especially single guys do feel more pressured in terms of looks and appearance. This is due to peer and group pressure , the pressure from the media and celebrities
and also society as a whole.

Oh definitely. I'm not a guy but let me just say my views on that. If a guy approaches me and let's say for instance he has cracked lips or an un-ironed shirt then it's a compelte turn off for me. I thing with time society is making it unacceptable for any lady to date a slobby guy. What has caused this? Society, culture, and celebrities are all to blame. I doubt any guy will feel comfortable looking untidy when the majority of the men are looking great. Women also are to blame because we see celebrities looking so edible that we want any guy approaching me looking like he just jumped out of the rubbish bin. So guys please take care of your appearance if you want to approach a girl.

Personally i think they do, as a rule society thinks its only women, who tend to be self concious about their looks, habits, dress sense and responsibilties, but no, men do feel just as self concious about these sorts of things, they constantly feel the pressure to perform as a better husband/ lover/ partner/ business associate, as society believes that, as men they should be able to do all this and more without a problem, or complaint.
I object to the "Neanderthal" or "superman" stereotype, that most men are portrayed as having, why does it always have to be that they have to be the "provider", and then people look down on them if they dont, Instead of beating down on them others need to realise that its alot harder for men in this day and age than it used to be.
I believe that it's the morally struggling protagonist with whom we identify and that we can separate out the fundamentally good people who sometimes have to resort to behaving reprehensibly from the all-around bad guys.
Personally im relieved to see that when my husband cries or throws things, as it shows he is human and that he too has feelings, and emotions that need to be dealt with also, regardless of what his so called work partners think.

Yes, seems to me that men are required to be tall, good-looking and in great shape in order for women to even look at them let alone talk and date them.
Furthermore it seems that personality takes not just the back seat but is completely ignored as the main factor in dating someone

Of course im always pressurised in terms of my looks if my tshirt becomes a bit loose on my bisceps i need to workout a bit extra or else i'll just walk out in full sleeves with my cardigans on..welll u may say im a body freak but i know some guys who are worse than a woman they carry their makeup kit ..like eye liners to shape their moustache, powder, hair gel and whereever they find a public toilet its time for make up...I think everything has a reason man and woman are completely opposites even the way they think if u've ever been with a guy who's beautiful not handsome in terms good skin and hair oh man!!! they are worse than girls in order to maintain themselves and will always look for compliment on their looks not personality..i know couple of ppl like them trust me i feel like the whole mankind is changing there are gays and now this new breed .....is a man but wants to look more beautiful than girl even girls feel embarrased at times looking at the beauty of these guys.
And i think guys have become like this because of girls they want to be with a guy unique from others and guys are doin their best to impress the opp sex as it is in the nature...But its not like how it was in ol days a man needs just big body and muscles with money to get the girl now guys need more than that because of the movies coming up starring guys with muscles, looks, money, power, fame so now girls need all this in a guy...Needs to be a popular guy in the university,or a musician ,or should be good in sports, have good qualification good car ,money and even after having so much she wants him to have a good personality and the way he carries himself depressinon of business, work, depression given by families wife or gf...guys have to maintain so many things and for girls only beauty to get the guy.

You women cause it. Us men KNOW that you women don't tell your true feelings about looks. Many women say that "look doesn't matter", but that is a pure lie. If it didn't matter, I would put up a profile without no picture online and respond to women on Yahoo personal ads and get 100's of dates. Fact is, you women all want pictures, which is fine, but please don't lie and say that looks do not matter.

As always, nothing new!
Men's fashion wear was always a priority in some high societies, women's too.
It's a way of life style, I like it, but not impressed by it, as I am always free to present myself the way I am.

often times i imagine maximum adult adult males are sociopaths with assistance from lady criteria. Or, in evaluation, particularly autistic (no offense to human beings afflicted by autism). like the guy who reported: "I many times try now to not get to emotional about issues, its merely a buzz kill in my concepts." chum grow to be merely being effortless. Empathy is extra discovered than we assume of. Ever considered somewhat one pull an animal's tail? Or laugh even as she pushes yet another youngster round, because she`s made some type of impact and were given a reaction? i imagine a impressive form of adult adult males in no way enhance out of that. it truly is more durable to attain traditionally male aims once you're empathetic. They get punished for it. reason they socialise themselves, with their p.c..-concepts.
