Yes.
And no.
We met just over two years ago. It was love at first sight. We were dating within two days of meeting, and within five days he told me he loved me. And I loved him intensely. I convinced him to move across the country with me (twice). We were deeply in love.
Then, we started having money troubles. We also had living together troubles. And we started to get mad at each other all the time. In the end, he cheated on me. I had already broken up with him when I found out. I heard it from the guy he had f*cked. When I found out, I punched him (he was asleep). He woke up and shouted "WHAT THE F*CK!" And I was like, "You cheated on me, you b@$+@rd!" and punched him again. He looked at me like his heart was broken in half and he said he was sorry, but the damage was done.
I snapped. We had already agreed he would move out, but I promptly kicked him out. We had angry, hurt, loving $ex a few times before he took a Greyhound bus back to our home state of Minnesota.
I was so angry for a long time, and so depressed. I still get angry over nothing now. I am not the person I was.
We don't really talk any more. He tried to talk to me about a month ago and it took all my effort to restrain from saying much of anything. I know we can't go back there. But I do love him.
I think of him every day, when I get in my car. There are a paper crane and a Turk's head bracelet hanging from my rear-view mirror. He made the paper crane for me when I was sick and it reminds me that there was a time when I was truly loved.

I think true love will always be an unforgettable love - but not the greatest. And if you're still inlove with the first one then it could be because the reason for breaking up wasn't that excrutiating. Should a person meet someone who is really a great lover even better than the previous one then I believe that previous one will be forgotten and you will think this is the greatest. So give yourself time when looking for someone especially when you just got out of a relationship and select the person according to your preference and before you know it it feels like moonlight and roses.

you never stop loving them because they were the first and that does not mean just sexually either. They made your stomach feel like butterflies and you thought you would never love anyone else. But now it's a different kind of love- in fact a great and precious memory. Tanya if you are out there- thank you.

No - but my husband is! I was/am his first love (but he was not mine). We have been together for 17 years!
I am glad I am no longer with my first love as I am extremely happy (most of the time!) with my husband! However, I do not regret my first love. After all, your past makes you who you are in the future!

Yes, of course yes. It's hard to just forget the person who taught you how to love in the first place. Even though we aren't dating any more and it's because it later became distant relationship but we are very good friends.

Yes!! absolutely, we met when we were 15 years old, married 6 years later, were married for almost 30 years, but she tragically died last year. I feel so lucky that she was mine for so long, but so sad that she is no longer with me & our 4 wonderful children. Wonderful memories, I miss & love her so much. If you find true love do your damdest to hang on to it.
