There will always be buying trends that are very predictable but variations will always apply....For instance--with most people of meager means price will usualy win the day / as will quality with persons of significant expendable income---but there are ready exceptions to this hard, fast rule---you will always run into the persons that will strain every dime they have into certain things of higher price and quality for whatever reasons that they may have--be it for the status that they thnk it will bring--or the unwaivering importance they've placed on that particular thing ...As is the occasional person that has the means and tracks down the absolute cheapest price they can--for whatever reasons---the skin-flint syndrome--or the reduced importance they have placed on the product in question-------all of this is within the studies of basic market psychology and is well documented ....

The best rule of thumb is to purchase the best quality items that you can afford and sometimes even when you can't afford it. Especially when it comes to items where the quality to price ratio sometimes out weighs what you might be saving up front!
Price sometimes equates to quality but quality is a relative term. You do get what you pay for but do you always get what you bargain for? That's the unknown variable to makes life interesting!

Funny you should mention that. Believe it or not, you can find both reasonable price and good quality at some thrift stores. Many people purchase their wardrobes and some home furnishings that way. Mall shopping is way too pricey and a waste of time. If I had LOTS of money I would probably opt for antiques and Chanel fashion, which has stood the test of time. But since I don't, "cheap chic" works just fine.

I believe it's true that more people care about the price of things than they do the quality of things. For many it's a matter of economic necessity. For some it's a part of their frugal lifestyle, I suppose.
And yet, just because something's expensive doesn't make it quality.

Not True. I think more people are worried about getting thier monies worth than price/quality. IF the wailty is good the price don't matter. If the quality is bad than why should I pay more for it.

In the long run I prefer quality over price. If you are going to be spending money anyway you might as well put it to good use ,plus quality last a little longer.

I wish that wasn't true, but, unfortunately, that appears to be the case. Otherwise, why is everything being made in foreign countries? Because, in most cases, the quality has gone down (a lot). This is the result of people buying the cheapest products they can find, regardless of quality. So, we have only ourselves to blame for the loss of American jobs!
I think Americans are starting to resent these inferior products, but unfortunately, it may be too late!

I am an artisan and make a high quality product myself. I have a large customer base that prefers quality over price. I as well prefer something that is superior in quality. Stuff that is made well outlasts the cheap crap many times over. So often quality costs you less in the long-run.

sometimes you end up with junk with a nice big price tag on it. I look for quality over price. I am not going to just spend big bucks on something and as soon as i bring it home it brakes. Quality is the best way to go. You get what you pay for.
