If u look closely,u realise that the england squad are more of a deffensive team, with the likes of terry, ashley cole, garry n,ferdinand as the deffense. In the mid field there is lampard and gerrard, which to my oppinion are more deffensive and their ability to strike arises only when they r loosing and the game is about to end(Not all the time Though). Then the srtikers;owen, crouch. Not too good am afraid, but rooney has a gift i have never seen in any player,He has the Flare, the strenght and speed. He alone in the attack can do it.The last european cup in portugal showed how he opperates in major tornaments.I think Young gun Wayne Rooney is England's weapon of Emence destruction.

Prior to England's 3-1 win over Hungary and 6-0 win against Jamaica (which made everyone start saying, "Who needs Wayne Rooney?"), many people seemed to think that having Wayne Rooney is the be-all-end-all of England's World Cup chances. He is certainly a good player, especially for his age (he is 20), and will hopefully have many good days ahead. He is not England's only great player, in fact most of the 23-man squad is quality.

Far far over rated... there is a lot more talent out there, its jsut that this fat, over egged scouser has been pushed into our faces for far too long, just liek most Man Utd players.. Englands world cup hopes woudl seem to dangle precariously on the shoulders of this kid.. and to be honest... i really think we've got the best English national team for years, but we dont stand a chance ... Unfortunately!! :-(
George Best was a different class altoghter.. one cannot compare Roon to Best... its like comparing Chamagne to Manns Brown Ale.. two completely different brews with different characteristics. P~S: COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!

Rooney is good but lets hope he won't be another Paul Gascoigne. He has all the attributes to be a great footballer on his own.
