I am a religious Christian and I have tattoos.
Read the article on the link below about Christianity and tattoos.
Then, open the bible, read the scripture and make your own decision. Dont listen to people who tell you its a sin, always read your bible and pray to God before you make your decisions. In some churches they beleive dancing is a sin, even if your dancing non sexuially just dancing around just for fun. ( I dont beleive dancing like that is a sin!)
The Bible says its a sin to "cut the flesh for the dead" which is to put markings on your body in honor of the dead. And plus, that was part of the old doctrine, and Christians nolonger follow the old doctrine. ( we ear pork right?). Jesus Died for all our sins, and he will not judge you on your tattoos.
What the bible does say is, Honor your parents, and by getting a tattoo behind your mom's back would be not really honoring her. Talk to your mom, and explain how your going to get it done at a clean health board approved place. Talk to her about how you thought about your decision and are not just getting it randomly.

This is what I have to say about tattoos. Honey, you can get Hepatitis C from it. It is the most rampant cause of cirrhosis of the liver. There is a treatment for Hepatitis C, but only 50% of those infected will respond to given treatment; the rest get liver disease and die. I also just got my blood drawn yesterday to see if I have Hepatitis C. You see we just found out 4 days ago that my husband has it and that I could also have it because I have slept with him. It's no small matter. I'm sitting here scared wondering what the results will be. I hope my test results come back negative. Please pray for me. I also hope for your sake that you choose not to get the tattoo; it's just not worth it. :(
Additional Note: A lot of people say it's fine if you get it done at a sanitary professional place. What they don't tell you is it doesn't matter how sanitary it is because part of the ink that is used goes back into the ink vials. To show you what I mean...imagine drinking out of a straw. Part of the liquid in the straw goes back into the glass when you are finished. It may be a very small amount; however, it is the same concept with the clean needles and ink vials when people get tattoos. Once you get Hepatitis C you have to get interferon shots 3 times a week for 6-18 months and there is no guarantee that it will work or that you won't relapse. I sure hope my test comes back negative. I will just hate it if it doesn't, and it's so sad that my husband has this. We have an appointment set up with his doctor in a couple weeks to go over his treatment plan. I think people that get tattoos are crazy!!!!

I am religious also and I have two tattoos. I told my mother that I was getting the first one and she did not object. When I got the second, she just smile at me and shook her head at me. I think that while you are in your mother's house, you should follow her rules. Whether its a sin or not, I am not sure. I had a christian once tell me that it was but if you get re-confirmed in the church (or saved again) that the lord will forgive you.
I love my tattoos and they do not disrespect anyone. I think that they're beautiful and I would not change the fact that I got them. Hopoe that this helps.

Taking the context of the bible is a matter of moral vs. greed. A tatoo should only be applied if there is a reason for it and it means something special to you. Remember, it costs alot to remove a tat, and it cost alot to explain one to everyone who sees it.

Tats are a expression of art on the body. Choosing one is fun however, it's also something you have to live with so, choose carefully !!!!
