Message sent to Y! user:
Bob Dylan may have been the one to sing about issues that no one else dared to speak about (at the time), but most influential? Most important? ..Maybe. That is another issue that is thrown into the mix. Dylan may linger on in most important tones just bc of the electric guitar and stream of consciousness, but who will always be thought of in the most respected.. original.. daring.. and never boring aspect such as the Beatles? Why are the Beatles so well recognized (compared to Dylan) and respected in todays culture (and others)?

King Crimson is the most technically advanced, Yes follows them, but as far as influential you really have alot to chose from. Take 'Can' from the 60's. But right now we have to look at three majors. Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys. The fervor they caused has to be the tops. Out of current music you have a compass that is out of control. Elvis and Beatles fans are two different people, I swear. I personally am more of an 'Animals' fan with Eric Burdon, all the way through to Timo Maas. Everything in between is pretty obscure. The "influential" band you seek is changing every day. Thank California for that, (BMG, CBS, MGM, Sony, etc.). But really you have to say Led Zeppelin.

Bob Dylan. No one else comes close to the kind of impact he made on society. He sang about things that others would never dare sing about.
And made the effort to fight for justice when others couldnt be bothered. He sung about real issues, and made an effort to try and change the world through his music.

In my opinion I would have to say it would be the late Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead for what he contributed to the musical lexicon. He had alot of musical influinces from his upbringing thanks to Country and Western, Bluegrass, Gospel and Blues as well as early Rock-and-Roll musicians such as Buddy Holly and early Bob Dylan.

Led Zeppelin.
Although they were not a Heavy Metal band the are (correctly, i think) credited with inventing the genre...their music also influenced and inspired rock, blues, folk, pop and many others forms of music...they were an immensely talented and ground-breaking band.

Um, well, for me it was H.I.M. Because their music is about love and things like that. So, yeah, I mean that's just for me personally. I think The Ramones where pretty influential in their day. The Clash or The Cure.
