Read, read, read. Get a sense for the written word, and different writing styles. Read modern literature and the classics. When you read a word you don't know, mark the page with a post-it and come back to it later with a dictionary, so you can learn the meaning in context. Learn Latin and Greek to help you understand the roots of different words, and take a class on the History of the English Language.
In terms of post-secondary education, look for a degree program in Journalism or Professional Writing (the latter is usually offered through the English department).

Uhmm... editor of what? Newspaper? Magazine? Films/videos/movies?
Anyways, I'm a film student so if you wanted to be a movie editor, my suggestion is to take up Film Major with Emphasis on Production. You'll have enough post-production hands-on before you graduate this four-year degree.

Look at your topic, it is poorly constructed. One must write well, in order to be an editor. Brush up, or choose another career.

first you have to learn to put sentences in the proper form, like "what would one have to do to become a good editor?"

you have a long way to go. first you must be able to speak English. how can you edit anything if you don't understand the basic rules of English? I'm assuming you mean edit things written in English. if you mean some other language, then my apologies.
