I think it means that the greatest military power in the world, after years of effort and thousands of lives lost, billions and billions of dollars expended, and the complete trashing of US standing in the world, has finally managed to kill one fat middle aged second-banana terrorist and the political leader of one of the more organized (and therefore more subject to negotiation) branches of the Palestinian political scene.
Woo.
If this was the "goal" of our efforts, as Dubya and his pet Brit Blair seem to indicate, then two bullets would have sufficed.
Also.
This was not, remember, Osama Bin Laden. That particular worthy remains alive and at large. The mastermind of 9-11-01 is still lurking in Afghanistan, still releasing orders to his buds, still rallying those who (with increasing justification) hate and fear the adventerism and cowboy "diplomacy" of the US.
Is the "insurgency" abating? Is the region "safer"? Are the culprits behind the terrorist attack on our nation still alive and free? Are we impoverishing our nation, spending our youth, antagonizing other nations, cutting off our supplies of strategic materials (that's oil, to you), and proving to the world at large that we ARE mad dogs?
What I think it means, sugar, is that if you spend enough money and put enough lives and equipment into it, you can actually manage to kill one or two of the bad guys. What worries me are the thousands standing in line behind them to take their places.
