Why not ipod with speakers, they are coming in fancy shapes and colours these days. He could keep one on his desk.

Don't buy an RCA Lyra.
My son bought me one for Christmas & the darn thing stopped working. Batteries were good it just wont play any more. I'm heartbroken

Sony mp3 player.it price is not too expensive and it can play many song.But I think i-pots is better.
