the car is a '91 camry, and the mechanic only has to change the front bumper and that's it. i have another car and i got this one for free. i'm fixing it up to give it to my friend as a gift from her having a baby. i want it fixed well, because the baby will be riding in it. NO BACK work. just the changing the front bumper. 5 days? no way....

As a manager of a dealer collision facility, Most bumper jobs are 1 day, max 2 days if there is paint work

Depends on the car and how much damage if any is behind the bumper. there may be allot of other parts that have to come off first. Although 3 days seems excessive . take it to a auto body shop for an estimate

Let's see.....

Leave it on Friday,
Shop closed on Sat, and Sun, (at least mine is),
Repair done on Mon,
Car promised out Tues.

Sounds like a one day attempt to me. Are you being "ripped off". Well you don't say how much he will cahrge, so how is that a "rip-off"?

I can't count the number of times I have had customers say they will have their car at my shop "first thing in the morning", then proceed to bring it in after noon! I have to schedule work, and if I have a time slot reserved, and no car there....well I get grumpy! Jiffy Lube works while you wait, but most body shops do not.

If you don't want it to take that long, find someplace else!

A bumper is just held on by a couple of bolts.Easy to change if you have big enough tools. He probably needs to wait for the bumper to be delivered, and since it is such a simple operation it is moved to the last in line(when they can fit the time in).

no telling, what kind of car is it? also how much back work does the guy have? does he have the part? bring a guy with you that knows something about cars and ask the mechanic questions about why it would take so long.

If he was able to order it on Fri at a dealership his order won't be filled till mon. It is then shipped out to him that night and he gets it on Tues( if the warehouse is close by that is) Then he installs it after repairing anything else that was damaged. and you get it that afternoon. Actually this is pretty quick. If he gets one from a junkyard then he is limited to calling the ones open on sat. and has to contact the others on mon. He either has to pick it up himself or have it delivered. So to get this repair that quick I'd say you are pretty lucky
