Clean your house. Put away food in fridge or containers. Feed your pet at designated times, and what the pet does not eat in 15 minutes, put away or throw out., keep water out always for pets. Keep the inside clean. This is a great way to divert sweet ants, the little ones look for sweets. If they are large ants, then you have a structural problem, those are carpenter ants, and you will need the help of a trained professional exterminator. Carpenter ants are just as destructive as termites! On a lower level of pest control, ant traps work wonders, but don't kill the ants! They go in the trap to get 'food' that is laced with poison and feed it to memebers of their colony. Soon the colony gets sick and will swarm away to a new location. They also have traps like that for your lawn too.

Stop feeding them!

Seriously- I keep telling my parents this but they don't listen. Keep your food sealed and make sure you wipe down food preparation areas and clean used plates, bowls, cups, etc before any ants can get to them. Just basically be clean... or the ants will start doing the cleaning for you- and then some!

Use Ant-Rid to eliminate the ones that are already in there.

Find the source wherefrom the ants penetrate. Cut a piece of onion or garlic. Smash and place it over the hole. Ants /termites dare not enter further. Repeat the same wherever they erupt. Garlic and onion are the natural, harmless even to the infants, easily available vegetable. Dont put it into your eyes Use it and see for yourself.

mix 1 tbsp borax with 1/4 cup of confectioner's sugar, then sprinkle it in the traffic areas. the ants will carry it back to the nest and it will kill the queen, thereby eradicating the nest. make sure no children or pets can get near it!
