When I top of my tank do I have to declorinate the little bit of water I add? My water is not hard.

20 gallon tank with guppies. I also vacuum the tank a couple times a week (usually every 3 or 4 days) so I wouldn't be replacing a large quantity of water in between times.

Yes you have to declorinate that water too. The thing with the de-clorinating stuff is it also can take care of other metals that are in the water. Chlorine and the other metals can build up over time and they don't just go away with time or cleanings.

So you may not have a problem for a long time, as far as water quality; but it could still hurt your fish eventually slowly poisoning them.

The chlorine & chloramine in tap water is an irritant to fish. Excessive amounts will cause damage to the gills.

Chlorine & chloramine is added to tap water to kill bacteria, and it does a good job. It will do just as good a job on the nitrifying bacteria colony in your biological filtration. Killing them will cause your tank to recycle, with an ammonia spike of around a week, then a nitrite spike of a couple of weeks.

Ammonia is harmful in small amounts, deadly in larger amounts, nitrite slightly less so. Topping off a tank isn't recommended no matter what the hardness of your water is, as it can result in pH swings, another aquatics no no. If you insist on topping off, give it a squirt of dechlor to maintain the health of your bio filtration.

Your best bet is to go to the store and get RO water in the bottle, or go to a pet supplier and get water from them.

You need to make sure that the water you use is as pure as possible. Also I would recommend that you do more than just top off your tank I would do ten percent water changes every 2 weeks.

No air pump. It releases each of the CO2. that's abd for the flowers. you basically desire some variety fo floor agitation. that's almost continually provided by ability of the clear out. Small tiny ripples is all thats needed. a lot of human beings choose for to run an airstone at night while the lights furniture are off to launch equipped-up CO2 on a similar time as the flowers are not utilising it. Edit - I have been given ninja'd lol..

I would declorinate it. Some fish are really sensitive to the cholrine. But if you only have gold fish they are pretty hearty and will be ok if you dont.

best thing to do is to fill a gallon jug and let it sit for a day or two. the chlorine dissipates and you can just add it as you need it
