Hey, Rider. I've been to Cozumel a couple times and it is my favorite warm-weather vacation place (been to other places in Mexico, Costa Rica and many of the Caribbean islands) but have only stayed in the resorts. Have no idea what your idea of "reasonable" is, we went 2 weeks all-inclusive in Feb '05 to the Hotel Cozumel (it was pretty nice but I think it suffered from Katrina) for @$1400 each from Detroit. I have a friend (of a friend) who is in Cozumel right now and they rented a house through www.cozumel-vacation-rentals.com and a couple similar sites I know of are www.gocozumel.com and www.cozumelvillas.com for you to check. A couple of pretty basic/inexpensive hotels I know close to/on the ocean are the Casa Del Mar which is a couple miles from downtown (I have been there before) and the Hotel Barracuda(never stayed there but I wrote down the phone number (987-872-0002) because I found the location so good) which is downtown on the ocean- I don't know how either of these places are doing since the hurricane. Not sure how familiar you are with the island, if you need any advice/suggestions you can click on to some of my answers or message me.

Sorry to be discouraging, but that will be difficult. Limited number of available properties to rent and if you're planning to go in Jan. that's high season (just before Xmas - Feb) so you'll be paying a premium price. Also, during this time, minimum stay is usually 7 days. Good luck. Hope you find something.
