Teenagers want what they think adults have... cars, sex and alcohol. It is just teens trying to prove to themselves and others that they are adults. Of course they have twisted ideas what it is like being an adult and don't understand that after you get to be an adult you wish you could go back to being a teenager.

I don't think they are fixated on alcohol as much as they want to be an adult. Just because it's illegal will not helped them to stay away it would push them towards doing it because they like the challenge of trying not to get caught. What they don't know is the statistics of what percentage of young people becoming alcoholics (i was a teen alcoholic) And when you are that young the alcohol buzz you get is different than when you get older or worst yet compaired to no buzz when you are addicted to it and need a drink, or a joint,or a snort, or a vial,or a rock, ... but then reality sets in, hopefully not too late, and you are an addict. young people think nothing can harm them that they will live forever. I was a lucky one to realize my problems and even luckier to be able to stop myself alot of people can not do it on their own. Good Luck to all who reads this and realizes they are able to stop before it becomes a problem or an addiction !

The style appeal earlier was smoking. It has comedown due to public awareness of adverse effects of smoking ie,cancer and other health hazards. This gap has been filled by alcoholism. In a study conducted in India, many parts of the country, whereever, smoking decreased alcohol or hard drinks sales increased.Liquor companies are making profit instead of cigarette companies.I donot know whether it so in other countries also. While limited used of alocohol, may not be dangerous, alcoholic addiction is harmful,it makes purse empty, ruins life and liver damage.
Kids should not be allowed to take alcohol.Pubs/Liquor outlets should not be permitted near(within 1KM) schools and colleges.
Since children copy parents, they have to show restraint and model behaviour

Well I, as a teenager, am not fixated with the idea of alcohol. I am willing to wait until I am an adult to drink, if I choose to. But I think most teenagers, at least my friends, are fixated becasue their parents seem to talk to them about NOT drinking. Therefore, as a teenager, they want to drink, because they were told NOT to.

Theyre at an age where the majority of teens think its ok to go against what the parents say. Live and learn. On a personal note, i think in the UK parents have given up.

human beings love alcohol too a lot. Plus a number of those drugs heavily screw human beings up. i'm no longer speaking weed, yet stuff like crack and LSD take heavy tolls on the physique. Marijuana will probable be criminal in some states formerly our deaths.

Alcohol is amusing. What else makes you feel invinceable and at the same time makes you immune to pain. At least most teenagers arn't doing crack like the last generation.

'Cause we're rebbeling, and it's illegal. Makes us feel hard, saying that. I don't drink. But for others it just seems cool 'cause we're not allowed. Like when you say to a young child who wants something, that they can't have it. They want it even more.

a mix of apathetic and pathetic parenting along with poor media are to blame. the advent of digital leaves us with a population of teens who view drunken americans on mtv week in and out doing bugger all.
