I dropped out about a year ago because of personal reasons. My goal is to attend school at Duke University or University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, both competitive & hard schools to get into. I'm currently attending a community college & trying hard to obtain my A.S. in general studies. After looking at the university websites, I couldn't find any helpful info that said that I could get in with a GED. Collegeboard.com also said that they don't accept a GED... I'm just wondering if collegeboard.com might be wrong. Do they still accept you with a GED?

If you're getting an A.S. degree, your high school education should not even come into question. You'll be considered a transfer student, and the only transcripts and educational history information that matters for transfer student are the ones from college. You probably don't even have to fill that information out on the application - I have yet to work for a university that did require it of transfer students, and I've worked for 3 different universities over the years. As long as you keep your grades up, you should be fine.

First -- congratulations on taking these steps.

If you do very well at a community college, you should be able to get into a good university. As a Duke grad, I hate to say that your chances are a bit better at Chapel Hill. As a State School, they are probablyrequired to reserve a number of spots for community college graduates. You don't say where you are -- but your chances are better if you are in North Carolina. Otherwise, you may want to add your own state school to the list.

Duke will be tougher for a number of reasons. It is extremely competetive -- as you are aware. But being a private university, it probably doesn't reserve very many spots for transfer students.

Yes you should be able to. I received and Adult High School Diploma and then got an AS at a community college and transfered in at Campbell. There was never any questions asked.
