Come on people, read the comics for crying out loud! Magneto has ALREADY DEFEATED Thor in the comics before. As it turns out, Uru is ferromagnetic, and Mags literally deflected Mjolnr away with one EMP! Plus, Magneto's force fields made him impervious to Thor's "God blasts"! Man, doesn't anyone ever read the comics before asking who would win in a showdown?

Anyway, Magneto's force fields have held off against Phoenix and even Galactus, so a puny little asgard is no match for him. True, Thor may be a so-called "God", but his powers are way below the omnipotent level. After all, Asgard "gods" are nowhere near the power levels of cosmic beings like Galactus or Eternity, but Magneto can easily manipulate blasts of cosmic energy directed towards him as seen in the comics.

Sorry about the rant, but longtime fanboys like me just can't stand the blatant ignorance of these people's answers. Plus, I worked at Marvel for quite a while, so I should know what Magneto is capable of.

Thor is seen as a God, but is actually an alien and is not immortal. In the comics, Magneto CAN control Thor's hammer because it is made of metal. If Thor is wearing any metal at all, he's screwed too. I don't know the extent of Magneto's abilities, just that he can control metal (because of magnetism), so based on that, almost anyone would struggle with him. The hammer is under a "worthiness" enchantment, but its not actually magical itself. The enchantment however, applies to those who try to physically lift it, which Magneto does not have to do because of his manipulation of (electro)magnetism, leading to metal.

The real question is whether Magneto can control the hammer. It seems that he can in most of the stories I have looked up... If that's the case, then Thor is in for a rude awakening. If Magneto can control it... Imagine this: Magneto stops Thor in his tracks, pulls the hammer right out of his hand, reshapes it with sharp edges and cuts off Thor's head with his own weapon which CAN hurt him... Done.

"After the Ultimates battled Ultron and Magneto, Thor lost his hammer to Magneto, who was able to manipulate it because iron was used in its construction.[65]"

The also appears to be a story in which Magneto defeats the entire Avenger's team by himself.

Thor would probably win this one. He has advantages in strength, speed, durability, & stamina. Magneto may have something of an edge in terms of energy projection, but then again, Thor is no slouch with his lightning attacks. Really, in the end, I think Thor would be too fast for Magneto, & would knock him out before he could put up much of a defense. Thor could whip Superman, & Magneto doesn't offer as much of a challenge.

Thor. Magneto is strong and would try to fry the Gods brain, but hes made of sterner stuff then that. Adn more then likely Thor would chunk Mjolnir at Magneto and Magus would try to deflect the hammer only to have his brains caved in. Magento would not be able to affect the Uru metal in the hammer due to its magical nature.

Magneto without a doubt. Thor can't even fly.

Magneto.

If you ever read the "Ultimate War" X-Men vs the Ultimates series.....Thor (as well as Iron Man) got tromped by Wolverine, Colossus, and Magneto....

Magneto magnetically flipped Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) around as it was being thrown at him and brained Thor with his own weapon.

Thunder God -vs- nature's magnetic polarity.....no contest.

Magneto would whup him, and has already.

Thor!! he is a god... he has vast superhuman strength, can call on lightning to strike down his opponents. even Magneto's shield cannot withstand Thor's hammer.
FYI: to others Thor can actually FLY!! and Magneto cannot control his hammer because its not just an ordinary metal!!

Kurse said it about as well as it can be said. These are two ultra high level beings... but in addition to his incalculable speed, power, and magical abilities... Thor (in his current version) has been tangling with God-level beings for millenia. Magneto would be a unique fight, and he could probably hurt Thor... but nothing serious.
