Why did he record Dark Horse album when his voice was ailing so badly?

Dark Horse was recorded long before his throat cancer.
That was just a sound he was after.

Never cared for him as a solo act. Didn't think his voice was all that.

Always wondered the same thing. Maybe he thought it'd give him a different sound.
