I think it is a psychological thing. It is an addiction. Just ask someone who smokes, or drinks how hard it is to quit. You will realize it is an addiction then. I am addicted to food even though I am working on not over eating and only eating when I am hungry.

Yes. Overeating is a mental addiction. Smoking and Drinking are more physical, but I'm sure there is some psychological addiction involved as well.

of course ,addiction is a compulsion to repeat a behavior regardless of its consequences.
Addiction means a person has no control over whether he or she uses something. A person who's addicted to something has grown so used to it that he or she has to have it. Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both.
Physical addiction is when a person's body actually becomes dependent on a particular substance . It also means that a person builds tolerance to that substance, so that person needs a larger dose than ever before to get the same effects. When a person who is physically addicted stops using a substance like drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes, he or she may experience withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal can be like having the flu — common symptoms are diarrhea, shaking, and generally feeling awful.
Psychological addiction happens when the cravings for a drug are psychological or emotional. People who are psychologically addicted feel overcome by the desire to have a drug. They may lie or steal to get it.

ABSOLUTELY! I use to be a smoker, but I managed to quit... I also use to be an alcoholic, which I managed to quit too... And I was well on my way to becoming a drug addict, which I barely escaped from... In my opinion, its easier to become an alcoholic than it is to become a druggie because its socially acceptable to drink and most people don't think its socially acceptable to me injecting heroin or doing lines of coke...
I cant say I understand over-eating as being an addiction, but on the contrary, I understand how under eating can be an addiction... People can get addicted to beauty (I'm still trying to over come that one) and they go crazy losing weight and getting surgery and buying expensive makeup and hair products and clothing... So I think of bulimia and anorexia as an addiction rather than a disease... but having an "anorexic mind" where you see yourself as being much fatter than you are is a disease...
In my opinion, the best cure for any addiction is to be more stubborn than your cravings!

Yes. That is why Jesus and Moses fasted. To be totally addiction free for awhile. See site below on others who fasted and more info on it. It is based on a book by fasting by Alan Cott, M.D. He is a psychiatrist and uses it on his patients. He learned about it by a guy who runs the fasting unit (with 200 beds) of the Moscow Psychiatric hospital. It has a 2 year waiting list since it works so well.

The ego is THE core addiction in every person who hasn't developed psycho/spiritually beyond it. The ego projects itself onto any number of 'bad habits.' Negative thinking, whining, complaining, boredom, and all self sabotaging behaviour and destructive craving for pleasure and/or relief from mental/emotional suffering are all symptoms of ego addiction.
It's all the same dis-ease....and the only 'cure' that's permanent is rooting out the core problem, which is unresolved fear that acts as a filter for everything we do (ego).

Absolutely! Besides, alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine are drugs!
All are physical and mental addictions.

some people have a very weak personality and use substances to bolster their ego. food unlike drugs it is needed to live. and over eaters don't know when to quit eating. eventually they have a hard time getting full and their whole life revolves around their next feeding just like drugs.
