i see plenty of internal hard drives that are either sata or ultra ata - but i do not see any internal hard drives that are utilizing firewire... there are plenty of external firewire hard drives, but none that are internal from what i can determine... i have a four-port pci firewire card with one internal firewire port - but i cannot seem to locate any internal hard drives that utilize firewire... seems like an incredible shame...

that makes no sense, because firewire with 400Mbps = 50MB/sec is much slower than Ultra ATA and SATA - they have 133MB/sec (Ultra ATA) resp. 150MB/sec (SATA 1).

It's because fire-wire was primarily developed by Apple through the 90's and turned into the predecessor to USB, and like USB it operates through the I/O controller on your motherboard (who is significantly down stream of the Northbridge).

On the other hand, the IDE (ultra ATA) and SATA connect directly to the Northbridge bus (the northbridge is the area where the hard drive connects to the memory processor who talks between the hard drive, the memory, and the system processor).

So your options are talking directly to the northbridge (SATA, IDE) or talking to a processor who talks to a different processor who talks the the northbridge (USB, Firewire). Which is why the SATA and IDE are faster than either USB or fire-wire.

Also, if you look inside your computer you won't find any fire-wire ports. So even if anybody DID make an internal firewire drive, it still wouldn't do you any good.

That is because firewire sucks when compared to sata, scsi or ata and has limited market appeal.
