Well in general terms papa is used as an affectionate name for father but if your grandfather likes, doesn't mind and you wish to call him that then do-unless you already call your father papa but even then consider who is objecting-if not you, your father or your grandfather thenet but pay no mind since not a principle person in this matter.

On my dad's side we called his father "Papa" rather than grandpa. My dad was from birmingham so I don't know if it is something traditional in that area or not as I wasn't raised there. I don't think it is inappropriate however it maybe if your cultural background not the same as mine.

Maybe. Sometimes You Say Something With An Innocent Intention, While It Actually Means Something Else In Other Cultures. I Used To Call My Mother 'Ma', Which Means 'Devil' In Japanese...

Definitely not! My daughter calls my father, her grandfather, "Papa" or "Bapa". It started when she was very young and could not pronounce "grandpa" and she herself started calling him "papa". She is now 8 and still calls him that. To be perfectly honest, he prefers to be called "papa". She also calls my mother, her grandmother, "nana". According to my mother, these are names that were "proper" when she was young and are what she was told to call her grandparents.

My nephew uses "Papa" for his Grandfather & it's sweet!
His father goes by "Dad." No confusion at all...& no one has ever confused his grandfather for his father. Go ahead!

The term father would be inappropriate as he is your GRANDFATHER.... not father.. the term papa is OK.. as long as it is not misconstrued for your father
