first off develope to have a SMOOTH FLUID swing..".GRACE IS POWER!!!!!" then work on "bat speed" .the SPEED of the bat NOT the weight of the bat is what drives the ball.... you must maintain grace and not "mustle" the ball. there is a diffrence between a QUICK swing and a HARD swing... you want to swing QUICK. maybe most importantly you want to hit the ball on the "SWEET SPOT" of the bat... each bat has its own sweet spot... you cant hit a ball far if you dont hit it solid[ unless you're very strong] .
to get MAXIMUM distance you must hit the ball on a 30 degree angle... this is just plain physics... ok ,bat speed and solid contact .maximum bat speed comes with grace... grace will also help you controll the bat enableing you to make opptimum contact. guide the bat into the ball and follow through QUICK! knowing this can make you a good coach...practiceing this will make you a good hitter... there are NO shortcuts... if you dont pay your dues .. you dont deserve it!

This boils down to three distinct things... First is core strength, second is correct contact (both on ball and location contact is made) point, third is to have the correct technique... swing, stance, hand path, bat path and finally it's the velocity of the bat and ball at contact.
You can work on several of these issues. The first is to work on your core strength. I recommend crunches, medicine ball work, and balance drills.
The next thing is to make sure you are using the correct technique in your stance, swing, etc. We use video to analyze our players form or technique. You can use it on yourself and see what you can find or have an expert review it and give yo feedback.
Proper contact point is very cruical. To get the most distance you need to be hitting the ball in the middle of the bats sweet spot and hitting the ball right in the middle of the ball. Further you need to catch a pitch in the right location. If you are hitting for distance you will want to pick an inside or down the middle pitch. Inside is the most easily hit for distance. In hitting these pitches two different points of contact are required. The inside pitch should be hit about 3-5 inches out front of the plate. A pitch down the middle should be hit as it reaches the front black edge of the plate.
Bat speed is very important as well as strength... this added to the velocity of the pitch being thrown will result in the most distance. For added forearm strength I recommend squeezing tennis balls and doing push-ups. I also recommend using an old bat that is lighter to do some practice swings with. Because it's ighter it will work the fast twitch muscles and add speed. Take about 25 "dry" swings twice a day with the lighter bat. Then go back to using your regular bat in drills, twork, BP, etc.

Build up your arm strength and bat speed. Or you can do like Barry Bonds and take steroids.

practice and hand eye coordination. a lighter bat will increase the bat speed through the strike zone.

Bat speed has a lot to do with it.
The quicker and faster you swing the bat, the more it will go places.

do batting practice. it strenghtens your upper body and arms and also teaches you how to control the bat.
