I dont believe there is a law that tells you when you child is old enough to stay home alone, at least not in Arizona.
It really depends on the maturity level of the child.
When my son was 11 I would leave him alone for a quick trip to the store or what not... but he was and is very mature for his age.
He is now 14 and he stays home all day by himself while Im at work. I call and check on him of course but he does great.

In Canada this is provincially governed, but I believe all provinces say 12. At 12 a child can babysit.

Family services only uses 12 as a guideline. If a child is 11 but mature and you leave them alone for an hour, likely there will be no problem. Alternately, you can't leave a 13 year old alone for a whole weekend.

First, you should check , because states do vary. I live in upper New york. I once asked a probation officer the same question. He told me you can leave a child alone only for about a half hour. If you were running to the store or something, but other then that no. Plus you have to make sure your other child is really responsible to take care of another. I left my kids, two younger with their older sister, 15 at the time. My younger son shot my younger daughter in the leg with a BB gun. Luckily, I didn't get into trouble for that. But I was scared because of it. So you never know when something might happen. If someone wanted to be a ***ch about it, I could have gotten in to real big trouble. As it was when I took my daughter to the hospital, a cop questioned me about everything. So just check things out in your state, and make sure your kids do not do anything stupid. I thought my oldest child was pretty good at watching them, because she babysat for other people. But sometimes brothers and sisters don't want to be bothered with their younger siblings, and that it where the problems start. They don't mean to forget them, or not watch them, but sometimes they get caught up in there own little world. So check things out and be safe. Make sure if you do, they know where your going to be, and have phone numbers for every place that's important to you and them. so they know who to call if they have to . Good Luck

You would have to check the laws in your state, but in Georgia a child can stay alone or babysit at age 13. But only for a limited amout of time, and they cannot be left alone over night.

The age limit varies state to state. Children should always know what to do in emergency situations, just in case something were to ever happen.
