I took my daughter and a few of her closest friends to dinner. If this is just a friend, a card and ask them what they would like? $100.00! for an 8th grader? Too much unless it your child.

Maybe a gift certificate or some favorite cd's videos special day shopping with 50.-60. of the 100. including lunch and a movie. You might be surprised at what teens really do like. Seems like the one your shopping for is easy to please. If it's a girl she would probably like the day with you best, my daughter would and she could still do a little shopping with you if she has money from other peoples presents.

A nice TI calculator. They might not need all the fancy functions now but this will give them time to get used to it and by the time they are in high school math, they will be so incredibly glad you gave it to them. Try the TI-83 or TI-83 PLUS (just a difference in memory, both do the same thing.)

These calculators are usually required in many high schools for math courses. This is even the calculator of choice for advanced math classes in college!

By 8th grade promotion, I take it they are leaving eight-grade grade school, or middle school/intermediate school/junior high.

You could give them something related to their upcoming high-school career: bookbag/briefcase/backpack, personalized pens or pencils, a lock for their locker, public transportation card or tokens. You might give the person a new wallet or purse, and slip in a 2006 coin. You might also give a dictionary.

When two of my nieces graduated in 2001, I gave them US Mint keychains featuring the New York quarter (we are New Yorkers). If your state's quarter was minted in 2006, fine. For 2003 for another niece I found a US Mint medallion marking some wildlife anniversary dated 2003. I also gave them, either for their 14th birthdays or for graduation, books with 14-year-old heroes, such as The Chocolate War, The Soul Brothers and Sister Lou, and Speak.

You could also give the graduate a gift related to their hobbies or interests, such as sheet music for a musician.

If your grad is altruistic, you might give a donation to the charity of his/her choice, plus a small gift: for example, a donation to Heifer.org plus a stuffed farm animal.

A KISS- Keep it so simple. This sounds like a person who ight have his or head on straight. You could go light with grad balloons, a grad mug as a souvenier and a fancy card. for a young man or a young lady. Girls also like grad teddy bears and a bouquet of flowers. Another choice is to take him or her out to dinner or give him or her a gift certificate for four at their favorite restaurant.

Based on the limited amount of information presented, I would suggest a gift card to place, such as Best Buy.

when i was at my 8th grade promotion, my uncle got me a mp3 player from walmart that was only $60. If that person like music, get them that.Or get them a nice stuff teddybear wif flowers,if it's a girl. if a boy then yeah, a mp3 player will do. oh the player that my uncle gave me was a creative player. it should be small, and rectangularish.

You state what they don't want-ask what they do want- a Sirius Radio with 1 yr.paid subscription any kid who's into music and what kid isn't would love that or Camera if the kids into photography--hard to suggest since the possibilities are endless .

If the person doesn't want money -- which I don't understand who would be opposed to money -- how about a merchandise gift certificate to the person's favorite clothing store?

gift certificates are great and can be used any time. I give them all the time , it makes me feel that my gift won't end up somewhere never to be seen again.............By the way American express gift cards can be used almost everywhere
