Not because your friend is not a teacher doesn't mean that he don't know what he's talking about. You don't have to be in the situation to know about certain things. Maybe he or somebody else for him have had some kind of experience with kids that go crazy at the end of the year. Also if you weren't looking for his opinion, why bother to tell him and then complain about his answer? He might not have been pretending. Maybe that man could teach you a thing or two about the way kids behave. Who knows, he might even hang out with a child psychologist who give him some amazing insight.

Is this friend the kind that if you have a cold, he has flu, if you break a toe, he's broken his foot. Always has to go one better?
Or is it just the saying what he doesn't really know, I know some people like that, I sometimes say "yeah", but not really in agreement, more just because the person is going on and on and a few yeah's and mmhmm's put in the right place make it seem like I'm interested.
Anyway yeah kids are like that at the end of the year hehe, maybe he's been a kid (I know some people seem to be born as adults though) and knew what kids were like, rather than what being a teacher is like?

Maybe HE goes "crazy" at the end of the year, thus your recent frustration with him. Otherwise, some people aren't the sharpest crayons in the box or they haven't experienced as much as other people. They want to have something to say so they look like they know what they are talking about, but it is all just a front. They just don't hear themselves and how dumb they sound. Chill out, take it easy, it's the summer, you have bigger fish to fry (like recovering your stolen cell phone!!!)

Come on, he doesn't have to be a teacher to know that, he used to be a kid! When he was a kid, he was probably raising hell at the end of the school year, too. All the kids I knew did. Don't be so quick to dismiss other people's insights. If you listen, you learn. OMG, I can't believe you don't know that! You're a TEACHER for god's sake!!

Were you looking for agreement to your statement when you mentioned it?
Your friend was showing a form of empathy with your plight.
It's not always that there is an answer. It's making small talk .
take a look at http://thebaldchemist.blogspot.com for some real fun insights into people.
take care.

Well, you don't say whether your friend has children or not, you see, I'm sure you're already aware of this, being a teacher, some parents know EVERYTHING!!!!!!! They even know what's best for other peoples children, and they know the way that teachers should teach!!!! If your friend doesn't have children, then I have no idea, sorry.

Because they can get away with it with most people. It's just a social tactic. It's a way to make conversation. Usually (subconsciously, of course), they don't want the conversation to die out and become uncomfortable, so they say something "brainless" like that in order to get YOU to perhaps say something interesting OR to verify that their THEORY is correct. Don't let it bother you. Too many people have been taught to do that when someone starts talking about something they aren't intimately connected with.

Maybe he was trying to be sympathetic. Or maybe he was a kid once himself. I think you're getting cranky. On the other hand, those who are not teachers really don't have any idea what we go through. Deep breath, relax....and ENJOY YOUR SUMMER VACATION.
