When I started infertility medications, the first being Clomid, a prerequisite was that one to have been trying to get pregnant for over a year with the same partner. If you are a teenager, you won't be getting it. I was 35 when I started the drug. I don't know if age will have anything to do with it. If you are having sex, you should have had a pelvic exam as soon as you started. You are way overdue. A pelvic exam with a Pap Smear will be done first. Vaginal cultures for GC and Chlamydia will be obtained at the same time. A speculum will be inserted into your vagina to obtain these specimens. You will have a rectal exam immediately after that. The doctor will palpate your abdomen for any masses or abnormalities. Your breasts will be examined for lumps. Your doctor may draw blood on you to check your hormone levels. All procedures would be scheduled for another day. A sonogram of your abdomen may be ordered to further rule out any abnormalities. Your doctor may have you check your temprature every day before getting out of bed or moving much for several months to see if your temp goes up like it should when you should start to ovulate-or when an egg is released from your ovary. Your doctor may want to perform a procedure to see if your fallopian tubes are open or if they have become blocked. He may want to take a Bx of the inside of your uterus. He may want to test your partner's semen before starting any meds. If for any reason you are over 32, I would see a specialist in infertility if the OB-GYN doctor found nothing physically wrong to keep you from getting pregnant. I went through all of these tests before being put on Perganol injections after taking Clomid for 2 years without becoming pregnant.

It's not much different than going to a plain gynecologist. If you are scheduled for a pap smear, the doctor will perform the exam to get cultures from your vagina to make sure that you don't have an infection that may prevent you from becoming pregnant. There are several things the doctor should try before Clomid. If you don't have any health problems, the doctor will recommend the best time of the month to get pregnant. You can buy ovulation test kits at many drug stores. Be patient, and don't try so hard. I wish you luck.

Just relax.. thats the first thing you need to do. They will check you blood pressure and things like that. More than likely they will do a physical examination. My husband and I tried for a year and a half before we got pregnant sometimes it just take time. You should be check before you get on Clomid to make sure it's not something else. Smile.. and relax. My cousin tried for 2 years and she was put on lots of fertility drugs and she finally conceived and she is now 2 months pregnant :) Good Luck

You may have certain exams at the first visit. It depends on your age, if you have had sex, or if you have any problems. Tests may include:

General physical exam
Pelvic exam
Breast exam
Pap test
Further tests
It is normal to feel nervous about your first visit. There is no need to feel scared or embarrassed. If you are nervous, talk to your doctor, You will be asked to lie on the exam table and open your gown. The doctor will examine your breasts by moving his or her fingers around your breasts in a pattern. He or she will check for problems, such as a lump. If the exam is done just before your period, your breasts may be sore.
For the pelvic exam, the doctor will look at your reproductive organs for signs of problems. The pelvic exam has three parts:

Looking at the outside of your private parts (the vulva)
Exam with speculum (device used to spread the walls of the vagina so your cervix can be seen)
Exam with gloved hands to feel internal organs
For the pelvic exam, you will be asked to undress and put on a paper or cloth gown. Then you will lie on an exam table. You will be asked to put your feet against footrests and slide to the end of the table.
Your doctor may check your abdomen, pelvis and vagina. Try to relax. If you are tense, you may feel some pressure or discomfort.
The Pap test can be done during a pelvic exam when the speculum is in the vagina. The doctor inserts a small brush or scraper through the vagina into the cervix. The brush or scraper is used to remove cells from the cervix. Cells will be taken from inside the opening of the cervix and from the outer part of the cervix. The cells are sent to a lab to be tested.
A specially trained technician or doctor looks for cells that do not look normal. Your doctor will talk to you about the results if any problems are found. Changes in the cervix do not always mean cancer. If there are changes, you doctor will arrange a follow-up visit.

The Pap Test

If you are 18 years of age or older, or have had sex, you should have a Pap test. It is done to check for abnormal cells in the cervix. It is done in the same position as a pelvic exam. In fact, it may be done during a pelvic exam, when the speculum is in the vagina.

For the Pap test, the doctor inserts a small brush or scraper through the vagina into the cervix. Cells are removed from the cervix. The cells then are sent to a lab to be studied.

It is best to have a Pap test when you don't have your period. It is a good idea not to put anything in the vagina for two to three days before the test. You may have some slight spotting after the Pap test.

You need to see the doctor and listen to what they say. I've been trying over 3 years to get pregnant, I was on clomid and I didn't like it. It made me moody and crazy. So just listen to the doc and you we find out what is going to work for you.
