I have three tattoo's in various locations. I didn't think it was an unbearable pain. Tattoos are kind of addictive. The first one I got was on my ankle which really wasn't that bad except on the backside was a little tender. I do have a good size dragon on my shoulder. The spots on the bone hurt worse then the fleshy areas. I had it done in 2 sessions. The outline and the color. The shading was worse then the outline and I did need to take a brief break, but the pain wasn't any worse than a pinch really. The 3rd is on my lower back on the side. That was probably the worst of the 3.

It really just depends on where the tat is located and how good the tattoo artist is. Make sure you get someone who is experienced.

MOST IMPORTANT!!! Do not drink before you get the tattoo. They usually won't do it if you've been drinking because alcohol thins your blood and you bleed more. And use what they tell you to use on the tattoo for healing, don't experiment with lotions. Neosporin is the best.

Good luck and don't be scared!!! Make sure its something you want and like....

I still have a couple more I want to get.

Tattoos are like everything else in this world: you get what you pay for. Go to a quality tattoo parlor, and have an experienced tattooist do the work. It may cost more, but in the long run it's worth it, because that piece of art is going to be on your body for the rest of your life. If you don't already have an artist picked out, I suggest you go to several different places and talk to the artists. Look at their portfolios. Make an informed decision. Also, if you see someone with a tattoo you particularly like, ask them about it. Most people with tattoos will tell you very honestly if they liked the person who did the work or not, and whether or not they recommend you go to them. For every good tattoo I see, I see two or three that look really bad. This is a permanent thing, so you must choose wisely before the actual tattoo work is done.

As for actual cost, it varies widely, and usually takes into account the size of the piece, the detail involved, and whether the piece is flash or custom. Custom tattoos usually cost more than flash, because the artist has to either draw it himself, or get someone else to draw it for him. Personally, I stay away from flash, but to each his own :) Some tattoo artists charge by the hour, and some charge by the tattoo. Discuss this prior to tattoo day with the artist, so you know what to expect. And bring extra money for a tip! Yes, it is proper to tip a tattoo artist.

The pain varies from person to person, and depends on their pain tolerance, as well as placement of the tattoo and the skill of the tattooist. Most of mine were not extremely painful, but I do have one on my foot that hurt quite a bit, especially on the bones and the achilles tendon. There is a point however, where your endorphins kick in and flood your brain. The rush was so powerful the first time I was tattooed that I nearly fell out of the chair. After that happens, the pain is much easier to deal with.

The worst part of a tattoo is generally the coloring and shading. Most artists do the outline first, and that part really isn't too bad. When they do the color and the shading, however, they have to bump up against the outline, or go over an area which has already been tattooed, and which is already irritated and sore. Luckily, that part doesn't last too long.

If you aren't getting tattooed until next month, I really suggest you spend some time doing research about tattoos and sanitary tattoo practices. It's a big decision, so do your homework. Learn about sanitary tattoo conditions so you can identify whether a particular shop or artist is safe or not. Learn about potential complications, such as infection or allergy to inks. And please, make sure the design you choose is one that you can live with, because with luck, you will be living with it for a very, very long time.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through this site, and I will do my best to help you out.

OK, so everybody is exclusive. what hurts one man or woman won't harm yet another. I am presently a couple of classes in on a leg sleeve and sure it hurts, however customarily best after approximately four or five hours of steady tattooing. I for my part believe that it hurts extra over a bone, or different locations that don't seem to be as fleshy. You might think the distinctive reverse. Like I stated everybody is exclusive. I have one on my facet that did not harm, and one at the again of my shoulder that used to be, to me, a medium type of anguish stage. I additionally agree that you simply will have to absolutely devour earlier than hand, I've determined that I have a tendency to get somewhat nauseous if I do not. Most tattoo artists will provide you a holiday for a couple of mins each time you want it, you simply ought to ask. Definitely opt for it despite the fact that, it's valued at it to have the lovely paintings in your frame. Oh, and do not get a tattoo from the tattoo flash at the wall within the studio. You are just about assured to uncover many extra humans with the equal tattoo as you should you do. It way plenty extra should you get a customized piece, to not point out you are going to have a one in all a sort piece of artwork.

It depends on what shop and who you have do your tattoo as to how much it will cost. I have 3 currently ( foot, hip, and back ) From my experiance my back hurt the worst. But only because it was basically straight on my spine. The closer to bones the more it hurts. You should do fine with your shoulder, a friend of mine got her first tattoo on her shoulder and had little to no pain. As for minimizing the pain, just bring a friend or magazine or talk to your artist and try and keep your mind off getting your tat. You'll do fine! Good luck!

The cost depends on the tattoo. I don't know how every place does it, but where I got mine, they charge $100 an hour with a $50 minimum, I think.

As for how bad the pain is - it was uncomfortable at first but the area (my lower back) kinda went numb after awhile. It really wasn't bad. At the time, I compared it to a cat extending just one of its claws and dragging it really slowly over my skin.

What did I do about it? I dealt with it. The pain is part of the point of it, after all.

My daughter just got one on her shoulder yesterday with her baby's name and a rose. It is rather nice although I don't really like tattoos and she knew that. She says that it didn't really hurt but there are certain areas on your back that are more sensitive than others. Further down from the shoulder was more uncomfortable. Try to concentrate on something other than the noise which makes you think that it's hurting more.

They only hurt if you let them, I have over 10 tattoos and none of them hurt, yes there are more sensitive parts of the body that are more sensitive. Ill give you a little advice, before you go to get the tat take some ibuprofen, it will help with the swelling, and take really good care of it so it doesn't get infected.

i have 4 tatto's and I have my reason why I got my tatto's. I have my tatto's in different places like I have 2 on my shoulder one on my right and one on my left. The others are on my right leg and left ankle. None of tatto's hurt but some people say they hurting depend on where you get them but the best place to get one is on your shoulder because it really does hurt alot. My tatto's cost from 185.00 to 150.00 . If you are going to get one make sure the tatto place doesn't have a body chart because if they do they will charge for the area that you want to get your tatto, so go somewhere where they don't have body chart cause they will only charge you for the tatto.

Mine cost $200 for half a bicep, 20 years ago.

There is some pain, but not unbearable. Not much to do though, most parlors will not perform if you're drinking.
Maybe if you purchase it first and then have a few?

Or some Tylenol X-S an hour prior.
