My first computer was a Vic-20. I learned BASIC programming on it. It only had 3k of RAM, but I never wrote a program that filled it up. You could get a floppy disk drive for it -- it used pretty much the same peripherals as the Commodore 64. It was a good machine. I can't remember what happened to my original one, but within the last year, I bought two of them online, just to relive the good memories. My favorite part of the Vic (and most of the other 8-bit computers of the era) is that the operating system was built into the ROM, so it booted up instantly the second you turned it on.
