Barry Sanders

Barry Sanders no doubt not only was he a superstar in college but also in the pro's he played for a team with no offense and had he not retired there is no way Emmit Smith would have even compared. What happened to Emmit after he went to the Cardinals nothing. Walter Payton will alway's hold the place as the top running back in the game due to his attitude and love for the game if today's players would go and take apage from his book football would be unmistakeably the greatest sport to watch.

I have a really hard time believing that anyone who actually watched Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith play would think that Emmitt was the better running back. Let's put it this way: Barry was one of the most exciting, explosive players ever to touch the football. His offensive line was at best subpar, at times horrible. Yes, Emmitt ended up with the rushing title (and an embarrassing stint in AZ to boot), but if he played for Detroit during his whole career he'd have ended up broken in half before he even sniffed Walter Payton's contrail...

N.O. Saint's
Howard Stevens
5"5 - 165lbs
College : Louisville
Born February 9, 1950 in Harrisonburg, Virgina

I collect football books i have appox : 700 to 800 of them he also was the shortest NFL player ever in NFL that i have ever been able to find.

Howard was a sight to see play he was so little he was hard to grab and he could run fast also.

I really thought he was this best i ever seen that small.

Emmitt is the all time leading rusher, how can he not be the best, regardless of the height. He was not as flashy as Barry Saunders, but he had more staying power and who can forget that game against the Giants on Monday night football.

You all are forgetting the greatest running back ever..... Walter Payton was 5'10"/203 lbs. No one could run, block AND catch passes like he could. Emmit Smith could maybe was faster than Walter but he couldn't block or catch passes like Walter did.
