Hi all,

I would like to ask what are the complications one may have on pregnancy?
The main question is, Does having hyperthryiod brings down the chances of pregnancy?

If it brings down the chances of pregnancy, usually by how much? How hard is it to get pregnancy?

Hyperthyroid would mean you have an over-active thyroid gland. This can contribute to low body fat, but now always. Most women who do not have adequate body % fat, will not menstuate, thus not having an egg to fertilize. If you are menstuating regularly, and do get pregnant, your ob/gyn will guide you through your pregnancy if indeed you have a hyperthyroid.

Wow. I don't know. Let me run and ask the doctor. Fertility concerns are a doosy. Hold on...
Okay...he says yes, hyperthyroidism DOES effect your
chances of becoming pregnant because of the delicate cycle of the endocrine system. The hormones are effected and so that does effect your fertility. But never fear, dear, I am a miracle sitting here. Couldn't get pregnant for YEARS and come to find out I had a fibroid tumor all that time. I didn't know until I got an ultrasound. I had tests and things to determine what the problem was and doctors could never confirm any problems. On Valentine's Day, my miracle and dream came true. Enough about me: YOU can become pregnant. When I began eating healthier, working out more diligently and expecting it more, it happened. I hope you get your precious baby, darling...

hyperthyroidism won't affect pregnancy...or at least it shouldn't. it has to do with a gland in the body that deals with calcium levels in the blood called the thyroid which secretes parathyroid hormone and calcitonin. hyperthyroidism simply means that the thyroid is being stimulated too much and is secreting too many hormones. don't worry...pregnancy won't be effected.
