MTV stopped doing that on a regular basis since the late 80s.
My thoughts? Stop watching it & go to LIVE shows.
W/ MTV, you're getting some director's vision of what the songs is.
Let's get back to actually using our imaginations!

Well, I'm a rocker myself, but the reason why MTV doesn't show real talent is because they go by looks and how well the bands and singers are promoted, not on how good the music is. Sad but true. They're too busy playing all of Ashlee Simpson's sucky music.
(There are more that should be mentioned but I won't rant on more than I should)

Sounds like you need to be watching BET not MTV. Both suck, BET is blocked from my TV because I hate it that bad. MTV already shows too much crap music with no talent like Busta and crap.
