basically i need something that is free. something i can quickly search thousands of customers, and print information. any info would be appreciated

Use microsoft access. Its help feature is very good and contains all the information you need to get your database up and running.

Microsoft Access is good. Microsoft Works also has a database feature, but I've never used it.

If you have to track thousands of customers, you can afford more than free.

Anything worth having is not free. A spreadsheet would be too difficult for doing this. I would recommend buying Q&A by Symantec.

I am assuming you are going to enter the information.

EXCEL is the best. However, if you don't have it on your computer then see what you have that has TABLES or similar (templates, etc)
