What to do with a 5 years old turtle who has a hook stuck deep in its mouth?

I caught a turtle with my fishing rod the other day. The turtle is around 5 years old and diameter about the size of a volleyball. The problem - my large hook is still stuck deep in the mouth of this turtle. The hook is half the size of a ping pong ball in length. I tried to remove it myself with some tools but the turtle will not cooperate with me. These are my options: Take it to a animal hospital or let it go at the lake with the hook in the mouth or eat it or kill it so it will not sufer or leave it at someone's doorstep. The problem is I don't have the money to take it to an animal hospital.. What would you do? I tried every tools I have and the hook won't come out. The turtle is still very healthy and strong. The turtle and me both grasp for air a lot during my 'failed operation attempt'. I'm scared and don't know what to do with this turtle.

Fishing hooks are made to disintegrate after time - just leave it alone. You will do more damage trying to remove it. Personally when I catch a turtle in my pond I want it dead anyway.

what would u do if u had a hook in Ur mouth ?? GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!! isn't that common sense .. unless Ur some kind of specialist you could remove it Ur self,otherwise take it to the vet or something but if u don't give a crap about it then just leave it ..which i don't recommend that would be wrong

Just walk into the animal hospital, drop it off then leave. If they don't treat it you'll never know, and the responsibility won't be yours.

call your local animal shelter and tell them you found a turtle with a hook stuck in it...they should be able to tell you what to do!!!

PS don't tell them you hooked him

i agree about taking it to the vet. it must be in horrible pain.
