I've always associated Daytona with Spring Break but we were given a free hotel stay there so we decided to make a vacation of it.

I have been vacationing in Daytona every summer of my life and even on my honeymoon. It has changed a lot over the years and after the last few hurricanes knocked over a lot of the older hotels, there are more condo's popping up. There are several miniature golf places a long A1A. The pier isnt what it used to be, but there are some arcades and rides and what not. For a really good dinner, check out Ponce Inlet Harbor. It's got the best outdoor bar and usually has live music. The menu is awesome too. Its kind of off the beaten path down a the Lighthouse, but any of the Hotels can tell you how to get there.

Check out the Race Track. Just one thing you gotta do. Ive never been to Daytona during Spring Break, so for me, its always been my summer get-a-way memory. During this time of year the beach is packed. The dolphins have been coming around the shore lately, so if you see fins, watch the swimming pattern before you scream "shark!"

Jellyfish are more common now, so just be aware of that too. Over the years, oil has polluted the water, so its not as clean as it used to be. Some hotels have mineral spirits to rinse off in before you get in the pools. Otherwise, just shower after you get out of the ocean or you will have a sticky film feeling on your body.

Shells is a decent seafood restaurant, its a chain, but good.

Enjoy your trip! Which hotel are you staying at?? A few that I recommend if you ever go back are:

Perry's-They make their own donuts every morning, has 2 large out door pools and an indoor pool that is handicapped accessable. Great Tiki bar and friendly staff. All ocean front rooms.
Sun Viking Lodge-Great for families. All sorts of poolside activities and a pretty good waterslide for the kids. Beautiful indoor pool. They have effiencies as well as a tower of rooms and also offer off beach cottages for a good price.
Best Western Aku Tiki-Located right next to Perry's, the pool area is nice and the bar is good. The restaurant is also very good for breakfast. Rooms are oceanview, not ocean front, with the acception of a few at the end of the hall, but you have to be a frequent visitor for those I found out or book really early.

Orlando is only about an hours drive from the beach, so if you need a day away from the sand, just head west on I-4. And Kennedy Space Center is an hour south on I-95.

Don't know if much is left of the Boardwalk after the last hurricane season, but there is always Main Street and the legendary Boot Hill Saloon. Another cool place is Froggy's, just down the street from the Boot Hill. The Ocean Center is always busy with big name concerts. The Daytona Speedway has a visitor's center that is really cool. Of course, the World's Most Famous Beach is Daytona Beach. If nothing there interests you, Orlando isn't a far drive and there is plenty to do there. Also, about an hour south of Daytona is Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
