Exfoliation of the skin is said to help.

You might reduce the risk of getting them, if you shave less closely; with the hairs, not against the way they lie.

I have a battery - powered shaver; it gives less trouble than a razorblade, with ingrown hairs. I think it is because it shaves less closely.

Get some of that cleanser that has little tiny pieces of walnut shells in it. You have to get the hair shafts up off of your skin before they start digging in. Don't use lotions or moisturizers because they make the problem worse.

After shaving put a mixture of hydrocortisone cream/ointment with lotion on sensitive areas.

I use acne pads. The salicyclic acid prevents them from popping up. And make sure to exfoliate (gently).

i don't know about preventing ingrown hairs, but moisturization can prevent razor bumps
lotion lotion and lotion; i recommend aveeno. it's great
