I would honestly take singletary over Butkus. He wasn't as big as Butkus, and may not have been as vicious, but I think Singletary was a smarter player and had incredible instincts. If he wasn't in on a tackle, he was never more than two yards away. He just seemed to instantly know where every play was going and how to get there unobstructed. I would love to see him come in as the Bears D-coordinator if Rivera ends up getting a head coach job. It kills me seeing him coaching the goddamn 9ers. It turns my stomach seeing him wearing any colors but navy and orange.

I totally agree with you his eye's were all over the field looking and setting up his defense to stop what ever play was going to happen. He was a great player on and off the field. There are a lot of good line backers out there who are real good, but I don't think there will be another like Mike Singletary.

I am a Chicago Bears season ticket holder and know alot about the Bears. There was a book written a short time ago that said that SIngletary had poor vision. He would not wear prescription goggles on the field so he got hard contact lenses. The lenses would bother his eyes because he was not getting enough oxygen to his cornea so he would open them wide to allow for his eyes to breath. I think he was great but if I was building a team around one defensive player - I would pick and start with Dick Butkus.
