my fifth gear keeps jumping out,any ideas why.ps we think the gearbox is ok

Depends on the design. Is it a rear wheel drive? They always had problems with the primary bushings wearing out and the primary shaft would drop. Then it jumps out of gear, or you lose gears. If it's front wheel drive, check your linkage and motor mounts before cracking open the tranny. If the motor is rocking, it will tug on the linkage arm on the shift gate control lever and pop out of gear.

Fifth gear keeps jumping out...This means the gearbox is NOT ok. If it was a Synchronizer...it would grind going into 5th gear...if it goes into gear...and then pops out of gear...MOST of the time it is excessive wear on the gear itself. Have you kept it full of fluid? Does it have alot of miles on it in 5th gear? Good luck!
