The cervix is the lower end of the uterus. It is located at the top of the vagina and is about one inch long. The cervical canal passes through the cervix, allowing the menstrual period and fetus to pass from the uterus into the vagina, and sperm to pass from the vagina into the uterus.
Cervical cancer is cancer of the uterine cervix, the portion of the uterus attached to the top of the vagina. Ninety percent of cervical cancers arise from the flattened or "squamous" cells covering the cervix. Most of the remaining 10% arise from the glandular, mucus-secreting cells of the cervical canal leading into the uterus.
The development of cervical cancer is gradual and begins as a pre-cancerous condition called dysplasia. In this form it is 100% treatable, usually without the need for a hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus).
Usually patients with cervical cancer do not experience problems until the cancer is advanced and has spread. A Pap smear can pick up dysplasia and early forms of cervical cancer that have not yet spread. Most women diagnosed today with cervical cancer have either not had regular Pap smears or they have not followed up after having an abnormal smear.

Cervical cancer affects the cervix, which is the entrance to the uterus (womb). The cervix is the structure that you can feel inside at the end of the vagina--it is rounded and feels something like the tip of your nose. Many cases of cervical cancer are caused by a virus called HPV, although most women who get HPV do not get cervical cancer. The best way to prevent cervical cancer is to have annual pap tests. These tests involve taking a sample of cells from the cervix and looking at them under a microscope to make sure they are normal. If the cells are not normal, the doctor can treat them early to prevent them from becoming cancerous.

Cervix means neck, so that is confusing!
The uterus (womb) is shaped like a bottle or flask, with the opening (neck) pointing down; joining onto the top of the vagina.
If doctors refer to "cervical lymph nodes", for example, they are referring to the neck just below our head, instead. There are big lymph nodes in there, which drain excess fluid from the face, throat, brain, etc.
"Cervical cancer" is referring to cancer caused by HPV infection of the cervix of the uterus, as the others said.
*Breaking News*
Australian researchers have developed a vaccine that will help prevent this infection. This will reduce the incidence of cervical cancer, which presently kills so many women, especially in Third World countries.
It will be marketted soon, by Merck, I just read elsewhere.
:-)
You will still need regular Pap smears. There will be other strains of HPV around; AFAIK, this vaccine just works against 3 strains. Early cervical cancer can be CUREd, yes cured by surgery. If early enough, the surgery can be so minor that you can still have babies! But catch it early, by keeping up the Pap smears.

the cervix is part of the reproductive system. Having cervical cancer i think means that they can try and remove the cervix and hopefully save the cancer patients life. Having cancer there will mean your infertile so it could either be take it out in hopes of getting rid of the cancer or leaving it in and possibly killing the patient sooner.

Cervix is the part where the penis goes. You need to go for Pap Smear test to check for cervical cancer. See a gynaecologist.
