good question. i've been in countries where there's a soldier on the corner with a machine gun. yet when i have a cup of coffee with one of the locals they admit they perceive the US as a police state. it's a quandary. there is a lot of crime here. the terrible thing is the more rules and laws, and the more police, the more crime.
in a democracy the level of freedom is determined by voters.

I believe that it is supposed to be a free country. The way things are going right now, I would not say that the framers of the Constitution would be impressed. In some areas of the country, people are getting fired for criticizing the government and not agreeing with it. All of those cases are not talked about nationally, and I don't see why not. We're not living in America to just agree with everything the government throws at us. Basically, I'm trying to say that as far as some countries go, we are a free country. But there are numerous ways we can improve.

Anyone and Everywhere have as much freedom as he can get. More valuable than freedom is consciousness.
I felt more free in between hungry kids (today proxy. 35.000) in Moscow (I am not Russian) than in America with rich people and they silly, unreal problems. Fortunately world was created without borders (No Russia, No America, No Iraq etc). Do you believe America is a free country? Do you believe New Zealand is a free country? Do you believe Any Country is a free country? Do you believe GREED is a free country?

Economically, yes. Free Market with little interference from government to prevent people from exploiting consumers and employees. Just lighten up on the extra taxes and red tape I deal with being self-employed.
Socially, there is room for improvement. Come on, weed is illegal. I haven't done it in years and years and don't plan on using again, but give me a break. It's only a gateway drug when it's illegal.
But we have freedom of press and speech. More so than in most of the world.

Depends on what you compare with ... if you compare with some dictatorships and third world countries, yes, America is freer ... if you compare with the civilised world, Europe for example, then No .... they have considerably more freedom in Europe than we have in the United States, and that, I'm afraid, is a fact!

No, not the way it should be. Police stereotyping and running everyone's IDs--phone taps--our personal info found out through our Social Security numbers and credit cards--too much more to list.
We don't really have freedom of speech, or of the press--and those rights were guaranteed.
