It's pretty much an entire south thing...not just SC, and it is even more true in rural areas of the south. My explanation is that the south is more traditional and kinda behind on a lot of things. It used to be common everywhere for people to get married so early.

Not sure dear... I live in Northern Michigan and know many that get married right out of high school... heck, I was 19. So, I guess i don't see the difference between here and SC in the marriage department...

Just like Kentucky,, what else is there to do?
The jobs aren't there in rural communities and we were brought up in the farming generational train of thought,, grow up, marry, make a life in that order.

eaely 20's is not that rare, but you will find that people in the south get married much sooner than the north

I have no real clue about any such stats, but I bet it happens more in Arkansas, and usually between blood relatives.
