my daughter is trying to say it is illegal to work her 40 hrs in our family owned restaurant

Laws may differ by state, but I know that where I live, a person cannot legally work until age 14, period.

To make sure you are not violating any of your state laws, just call the labor board in your area.

That's a tough question. There are child labour laws and jurisdictional differences. Once upon a time kids would start in coal mines at the ripe old age of 7.
Perhaps local research should be done on it.

My question is....Why do you want your 15 year old to work 40 hours in the restaurant. She is a kid let her be a kid. She has homework and better stuff going on at 15.

hope your daughter doesnt own an account here but as far as i know no it is not illegal but in most cases to begin with 15 year olds are not allow to hold a job .. i think it depends on if they have the parents concent but no it is not illegal but you can still call up a lawyer or city council to make sure if it varries for each city or state ^_^ ... good luck!!!!

Your best bet would be to go to your state's web site and check under state employment rules and regulations to see if whether or not it is legal for someone of that age to work in that enviornment.
