They break up, move apart and then after a time, they bump into each other. You get the idea from the way they look at each other that they will get back together.
This is not the original ending though, test audiences hated the original, so they went back and reshot it. The original had them merely breaking up and that was it. But test audience felt that after all Jen Aniston had been through, she deserved a happier ending.

vince vaughns character apologized and she said she didnt feel the same way about him anymore...i didnt really believe it since she was crying over him the night before..the ending was the only part i didnt like because it left it open as to if they got back together or not! it was a great movie though! funny and emotional. the last few minutes of the movie are when they bump into each other after having being broken up for a little while. they look at each other with love in their eyes. i bet they get back together, but i need to know for sure...[[im weird like that]]

in the short story, the blond realizes when talking to the dark haired guy's widow that it was not an accident. But even the story leaves a lot of detail out. But it's clear that he was murdered.

at the end they sell their apartment and vince vaughn becomes a better person and jen takes a leave from work and travels. a few months later they run into each other (vince is finally working on a boat tour, and jen is back at work). and they have awkward convo and they plan (without the details) to meet up with each other.

They don't get back together, and they are friends, sell the condo they split the money they go separate ways... The movie leaves you flat and wanting a drink. wait for TV. NOT WORTH SEEING ON RENTED DVD OR VHS>>>>wait for cable or a network.

they break up, but looks like it shouldnt end there so dont be too disapointed if you go see it since you have been warned that EVERYONE thinks the ending is terrible!!!
